What exactly is a Biofire™ fire log?

Biofire™ firelogs are extremely dense logs. They are also two to three times drier than traditional well seasoned cord wood, and are far denser than any natural North American wood species. Biofire™ firelogs have 440% more energy than the equivalent volume of well seasoned cord wood due to their dryness and high density.

What is in a Biofire™ firelog? Is there glue in a Biofire™ firelog?

Biofire™ firelogs are 100% wood, with no glue or additives of any kind. Our primary source of biomass is from standing dead pine trees, the lodgepole pine tree species. Our other Biofire™ firelog products incorporate Western Red Cedar, paper or recycled urban wood waste.

How are Biofire™ firelogs made?

Woody biomass is dried using our unique drying system which uses wood residue for heating rather than burning fossil fuels. The dried material is then fed into a machine which exposes it to intense heat and pressure generated by mechanical means. During this process a chemical component known as lignin, which is present in all biomass, liquefies for an instant as the wood passes out of the machine. As the resulting firelog cools, the lignin solidifies and binds the log together without the use of waxes or other chemical based additives.

Are Biofire™ firelogs safe for the environment?

Biofire™ firelogs are good for the environment because they utilize dead standing timber which allows these areas to be replanted with vigorous new seedlings, which remove CO2 from the atmosphere. Biofire™ firelogs are carbon neutral as the trees they are made from have removed as much CO2 from the atmosphere during their living years as they put back in during combustion, unlike any fossil fuel. Particulate emmisions are also far less when compared to regular cordwood because of their high density and dryness.

No. Biofire™ firelogs burn in any traditional or high efficiency wood burning appliance. Care should be taken not to overload your stove when you first try Biofire™ firelogs as they contain far more heat energy that regular cord wood and will burn much longer and hotter than an equivalent size load of cord wood.

How do I start a fire with Biofire™ firelogs?

Lay two Biofire™ firelogs parallel to each other with small space in between them. Insert some crushed paper between them and lay another Biofire™ firelog at an angle across the paper and the firelogs below. Light the paper and enjoy. Small sections of a Biofire™ firelog can be broken off and laid on the paper to encourage a quick hot fire.
